The purpose of this policy and procedure is to ensure waste generated through Empowering Connection’s operations is managed safely, responsibly and in compliance with environmental and work health and safety requirements.

This policy and procedure applies to all staff and meets relevant legislation, regulations and standards. It should be read in conjunction with the Work Health and Safety Policy and Procedure.

Definitions

Waste

Any discarded, rejected, unwanted or surplus material, including general, recyclable and hazardous waste.

Clinical waste

Waste that has the potential to cause infection or injury, including sharps and materials contaminated with bodily fluids.

Hazardous waste

Waste that poses a risk to health, safety or the environment if not managed appropriately.
