The purpose of this policy and procedure is to ensure Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) are implemented consistently, safely and in accordance with legislative and NDIS requirements.

This policy and procedure applies to all staff responsible for implementing, monitoring or supervising PBS strategies and meets relevant legislation, regulations and Standards.

Each participant accesses behaviour support that is appropriate to their needs and reduces and eliminates the use of restrictive practices.

• Behaviour Support Plans are implemented as authorised.
• Staff are trained and competent in PBS strategies.
• Restrictive practices are monitored, reviewed and reduced.

Rights and Responsibilities

Outcome

Each participant’s rights, dignity and freedom are respected.

Indicators

• Participant choice and control are promoted.
• Safeguards are in place to prevent harm or misuse of practices.
• Participants are supported in the least restrictive way possible.
