The purpose of this policy and procedure is to ensure decision-making within Empowering Connection is ethical, transparent, lawful and supports participant choice, control and wellbeing.

This policy and procedure applies to all staff and covers decisions relating to service delivery, participant supports, governance and operational matters.

Decision making

The process of choosing a course of action from available options, taking into account relevant information, risks and participant preferences.

Supported decision making

A process that enables a participant to make their own decisions with appropriate support, rather than having decisions made for them.

Substitute decision maker

A person legally authorised to make decisions on behalf of a participant where they are unable to do so.
